Holistic Wellness: Embracing the Practice Mellow Approach
=========================================================
Holistic Wellness is an integrated approach designed to support optimal health and well-being, maximizing joy while minimizing suffering. We call this approach “Practice Mellow.”
Our goal is to help you learn how to practice mindfulness, positivity, and gratitude. This approach can prevent pain from escalating into suffering in your body, mind, and spirit. At Kairos, we assist clients in developing a wellness plan that considers all aspects of their lives. This plan is based on the five dimensions depicted in the KWE Holistic Wellness diagram below:

Understanding the Five Dimensions
The diagram illustrates the interconnectedness of the five dimensions of wellness. It's crucial to focus on our entire being rather than isolating specific issues or dimensions. Isolated issues may include challenges such as weight management, fear of the unknown, or social anxiety. To access a sample list of issues and techniques we teach, click here.
The Importance of Breath
At Kairos, we teach our clients mindful techniques to address all dimensions through the intentional use of slow, deep, diaphragmatic breathing. This slow and nasal breath serves as the foundation for our Practice Mellow approach.
The Belly Breath: The Key to Holistic Wellness
Watching a baby breathe is a powerful reminder of how naturally and peacefully we can breathe. We are born with this ability, and we can quickly learn to rediscover it.
With practice, we can slow our breathing to about six breaths per minute. This breathing rate has been shown to help us return to homeostasis. We refer to this as repurposing fight or flight!

Well-Being and the Five Dimensions
Using breath as a common denominator, we guide our clients through an intentional practice that targets each dimension while honoring their interconnectedness. Below is a summary of the highlights covered in our workshops.
Physical Dimension: Breath for Stability & Power
To build stability and strength, we begin by mastering our breath. We then map breath to simple movements, teaching clients how to transfer energy from their inner core to external muscles. By harnessing the muscles of the inner core, clients develop strength and power. This foundational breathwork enhances their performance in both the gym and daily activities.
Mental Dimension: Breath for Restoration
Did you know that the average person thinks anywhere from 6,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day? That’s a lot of activity for our minds! After all that thinking, our minds need a break. By leveraging ten-second breaths, we guide clients to use their breath for relaxation and restoration. This practice creates what we call a vacation for the mind, both during workshops and throughout their busy day.
Emotional Dimension: Breath for Clear Seeing & Peace
Research shows that around 80% of our thoughts can be negative. This can often lead to a fog of negative emotions that cloud our days. At Kairos, we help clients clear away this negativity through reframing techniques. We assist them in developing a meditation practice that maintains a peaceful mindset. This approach helps to transform negative emotions like sadness, anger, and resentment into empowering thoughts.

As we mentioned, while pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
Social Dimension: Breath for Compassion
Many clients find their social anxiety rooted in negative thinking. Worry, concern, and fear can significantly contribute to this anxiety. By reframing their emotions into curiosity and compassion, our clients learn to approach social situations with a sense of childlike wonder. This shift in perspective helps manage unnecessary anxiety and opens up opportunities for positive interactions.
Spiritual Dimension: Breath for Dharma
During our workshops, we guide clients in exploring their dharma, or their unique purpose in life. Many feel a lack of direction, and pursuing one’s passion can be challenging amidst family obligations. However, everyone has a way to pursue their life mission.
Whether religious or not, we encourage clients to identify ways to pursue their dharma as a key part of their spiritual dimension. It is crucial to pursue objectives only you can accomplish. In the words of Paulo Coelho in The Alchemist, “To realize one’s destiny is a person's only obligation.”
Conclusion: The Path to Holistic Wellness
